| Research Note |
1846 |
- Surgery regarding the type of injuries that Alexander had sustained from the Mass of Coal falling on him, was very limited still in 1846.
He most likely was taken to theatre for repairs but due to limitations in surgerial proceedures, there was a high chance of non survivial. He most likely also had fractures, which would have also complicated the major injury.
Pain relief was still very limited, and Poppy Seed Juice (Opium) and Laudanum were the most frequently used drugs.

- DISTRESSING COLLIERY ACCIDENT
A distressing accident occurred at Stevenson Colliery, by Holytown, a few days ago, when a collier of the name of Alex.
